“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1
Paul says how we present our body matters. He calls it our reasonable service. Why is it reasonable?
Here are some good reasons:
1. Sin has no more dominion over our body. Rom 6:12
2. Being saved by his mercy and grace, life in our bodies is from him, in him, and for him. Gal 2:20; Rom 6:4; Rom 11:36
3. He has made us servants of God by grace. Our body is an instrument of service. Rom 6:22
4. The Spirit that dwells in us can quicken our mortal flesh. Rom 8:9-11
5. In our bodies we have hope of incomparable glory. Rom 8:18
6. God’s love commended in Christ constrains us. Rom 5:8; Rom 8:38-39; 2 Cor 5:14-15
7. Our body is now God’s. We are bought with a price. 1 Cor 6:20
8. Our body is now the temple of the Holy Ghost. 1 Cor 6:19
9. Our bodies are members (body parts) of Christ. 1 Cor 6:15; Romans 12:4-5; Eph 5:30
10. In our body we possess the treasure of God’s glorious power. 2 Cor 4:7
11. Our body can manifest the life of Jesus. 2 Cor 4:10-11
12. Our body can be used to magnify Christ. Phi 1:20
13. Our body will be resurrected. 1 Cor 15:21-22
14. Grace teaches us to live godly in our present body. Titus 2:12-14
God was manifest in the flesh in Christ Jesus to be the living sacrifice that saves.
We are redeemed by His body. We are baptized into His body. Presenting our bodies as if they are Christ’s own is not only reasonable, it is our purpose.
For His glory,
Justin “God’s elbow” Johnson
