Email Tips: Why Many People Don’t See – Part II

This "tip" was originally delivered on Saturday, May 24th, 2025 .

When the Bible becomes clear after learning dispensational right division, it is common to ask, “Why don’t more people see this?”

Last week, we answered with the troubling statistic that 20% of American adults are illiterate. That is, a fifth of adults can’t read, literally.

They don’t know what part of the Bible is being left out, taken out of context, or ignored because they can’t read the Bible for themselves.

But the problem extends beyond those who are incapable of reading. There is a greater number of people who can read but choose not to. If people don’t read, it is no better than if they can’t.

In addition to the illiterate 20% is an additional 35% of American adults that are literate but report not reading a single book in the average year.

It gets worse when looking at Bible illiteracy. By illiteracy, I do not mean a failure to comprehend, I mean simply not reading it.

80% of Americans have never read the Bible all the way through, with 50% having never read a single book of the Bible, according to a Lifeway study.

Even among regular churchgoers, more than half don’t read the Bible during an average week. They only know the Bible from what the preacher says (or doesn’t say).

It’s evident we need to get back to the basics.

The single greatest activity a person can do to increase their own understanding is to open the book and read it.

The King James Bible on my desk has 365 pages in the New Testament. One measly page a day finishes those 27 books in one year.

Why don’t more people see it? For most, it is because they are not looking. Sadly, some can’t read, but for those that can, many choose not to.

The Bible remains closed on the shelf, as does their eyes.

“Till I come, give attendance to reading …” – 1 Timothy 4:13
