Sometimes after someone learns to use their Bible and rightly divide it, I get this question, “Why don’t more people see this?”
There are many reasons, but this one may be the most troubling.
People can’t read. Literally.
Nearly 20% of adults in our country are illiterate. According to the ProLiteracy group, they cannot read past the lowest level.
Historically these rates have been higher. Illiteracy prevents these adults from seeing anything in Scripture that is not spoken by a preacher.
A teaching heard at church cannot be evaluated, checked, or challenged if you can’t read the Bible for yourself.
Without reading it yourself, it is nigh impossible to know that part of the Bible is being left out or ignored (e.g., “mystery,” “dispensation,” etc.).
It’s a good thing that God chose the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe (1 Cor 1:21). You don’t have to read a word to hear the gospel and believe unto salvation. But then God furnished those that believe with a book whereby when they read, they can understand.
“I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ” – Ephesians 3:4
Why don’t more people understand? For many, it’s as simple as they can’t read.
One way to make more men see might be to help more “see Spot run”.
To make all men see,
