Email Tips: The Mercy of the Lord

This "tip" was originally delivered on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 .

In 2 Corinthians 1:3, our apostle Paul calls God “the Father of mercies.”

God giving mercy to man is not a new idea. He has been giving mercy ever since the first man sinned (see Gen 3:21).

The Lord is merciful and gracious (Ps 103:8). It describes his character. Our God is merciful, and his mercy is great (Ps 116:5; Psa 117:2).

Ephesians 2:4-5 says God saves us because he is rich in mercy. Everything God gives us is a mercy, and everything that makes you alive was given by God.

Our days are as grass. Our life is as dust that gets blown away, and nobody considers it. But there is something we can possess that is from “everlasting to everlasting”: God’s mercy.

“the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him” – Psalm 103:17

Twenty-six times in Psalm 136 it declares God’s “mercy endureth for ever.”

Not everyone receives every mercy from God, and how we receive those mercies change from faith to faith, but one thing that never changes from one dispensation to the next, in good times or bad, in sickness or in health, in life or in death, is that God is merciful.

This is why the believer can live in hope and joy. The LORD’s mercies “are new every morning,” great is His faithfulness (Lam 3:22).

Praising God for his mercies,

Justin “undeserving” Johnson
