Though the teaching of the Remnant may be unfamiliar to many, it is not new and has not always been unknown.
C.I. Scofield summarized the Remnant doctrine in his note on Romans 11:5: “In the history of Israel, a remnant may be discerned, a spiritual Israel within the national Israel.” His note is worthy reading.
Clarence Larkin found many Remnant types: “Daniel, like the three Hebrew Children, is a type of the Jewish Remnant.”
J.N. Darby said about the longest book, “ The Psalms, then, belong properly to Israel, and in Israel to the godly remnant.”
He described who was speaking in Isaiah 53, “ After verse 1 the Spirit speaks by the mouth of the escaped remnant of Israel.”
J.N. Darby speaks of the ministry of Jesus to the remnant: “The object is again, after the resurrection, to connect the ministry and service of Jesus — now transferred to His disciples — with the poor of the flock, the remnant of Israel.”
Darby even recognized the remnant in the book of Hebrews: “…it is evident that we understand the epistle to be addressed to the believing remnant…”, and in chapter 2, “This is again the remnant of Israel called by grace.”
A.C. Gaebelein mentions the Remnant hundreds of times in his commentaries. Yet, about this dispensation he writes: “Between these two remnants, a remnant at the beginning of the present age and a remnant at the end, stands another fact – the fact that the Body of the Lord Jesus Christ is composed of believing Jews and Gentiles …”
Regarding a remnant of Israel during this dispensation he understood, “It is impossible to speak of a remnant of Israel at this time, which is saved by Grace and which holds a specific national Jewish position in the earth.”
We are not the first dispensationalists to see the importance of understanding the Remnant. However, this truth to be found throughout the Bible has become widely unknown.
Hopefully that will start to change with all students of the word of God beginning at our humble seminar in Indiana.
