In Bible prophecy, the Remnant of the Lord is Israel.
God separated Abraham, Isaac, Jacob from the rest and made a nation separate from the rest.
Everyone born from the tribes of Jacob was a member of the nation of Israel.
When the nation disobeyed God, he would judge them by removing or separating the unfaithful part, working then through those that remained faithful – the remnant. This was known as a righteous judgment, a national healing, a deliverance from evil.
Sometimes, those who disobeyed would return and join the remnant in serving the Lord (i.e., think prodigal son).
In every case, the remnant believed the truth, while the rest of the nation did not. There was always an unfaithful part of the nation, and a faithful part of the nation, a faithful few, a remnant.
The Church, which is Christ’s Body, is never called a remnant. It is a new creature.
No one enters the Body of Christ by natural birth. It requires faith and salvation. There is no such thing as a member of the Body that does not believe.
When we trust the gospel of Christ we are joined to one Body, we are not divided from the rest of the Church.
Neither is the mystery Body subject to the judgment of God that destroys or removes. Members of Christ’s body are never removed, purged, nor cut off.
The remnant exists throughout the Bible wherever Israel exists. God preserves them. The remnant is always only a part of the whole, an incomplete nation.
However, when the mystery of Christ was revealed, there is no more talk of a remnant, but a new creature complete in Christ. Every believer today is a part of a united Body, not a part of a remnant divided. The only division in the Church today should be its right division from the biblical remnant of Israel.
