What does the gift of teaching look like?
Is it years of study in rhetoric, dictation, and subject matter?
It doesn’t seem like a gift if someone has to generate it themselves.
Is it hours of preparation, editing, and practice?
That doesn’t seem like a gift, that’s hard work.
Is it when people like to stand in front of others and give their opinion?
If that’s true, then every blogger has God’s gift of teaching.
The truth is God is not giving a supernatural gift of teaching any longer. He has preserved for us a book to learn from.
The ability to teach comes from faithful men teaching others how to understand God’s word.
“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”- 2 Timothy 2:2
There are a lot of bad teachers who claim to have the gift of teaching. The worst ones use it as an excuse not to study doctrine.
You don’t need a gift from God to teach. You need a desire to spend time learning the material.
We need more teachers, not more gifts.
For His glory,
