Children learn that knives are for cutting and are sharp. They learn that stoves are for cooking and are hot.
This is useful and necessary information to know, but there is still room to grow. The real benefit of knives and stoves is in using them as tools to cook food.
It is similar with our growth in sound doctrine.
There is necessary information and doctrine that is good for everyone to learn. Even children can learn the word of truth and rightly divide it.
However, there is a profitable use for doctrine that goes beyond just being able to rightly divide the word of truth and draw pretty charts.
Sound doctrines are tools of spiritual growth and ministry. We need to learn how to use them in our life.
This is how you grow beyond learning the basic doctrines of right division and the mystery of Christ.
Right doctrines are weapons of daily warfare (2 Cor 10:4). You already know which ones to use through right division. Train yourself in using them.
Prepare yourself with which doctrines to use, then practice using them. Before long you will be eating strong meat (Heb 5:14).
