When you arrive at the right answer, movement in any direction would be wrong.
Good advice for someone who is right where they should be is “don’t move”.
Once a foundation stone is laid plumb, leave it alone!
There seems to be a human inclination to always innovate or improve on things. When it comes to salvation any addition is a bad idea.
This is why the five sola statements of the Reformation were essentially cries to “leave salvation alone”.
Salvation is because of Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone, to the glory of God alone, on the final authority of scripture alone.
Even today while some will agree with you about the gospel, it was what they add to it that makes it wrong.
Leave it alone!
One job of the church is to cut away any additions people make to the truth of salvation.
Our cry is “nothing but the truth”, “nothing but the blood”, “nothing but the cross”, “faith plus nothing”, and “none but Christ”.
Our Ambassadors Seminar, going on today and tomorrow, explores the Reformation, leaving salvation alone, and why it might be time once again to cut away what has been added to the truth of the gospel of God’s grace.
See you there!
For His glory (alone),
Justin “leave it alone” Johnson
