After spending nearly six months studying the Jewish book
of James, it has become evident that Paul was right: all scripture
is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable…” (2 Tim 3:16)
Too often the book of James is not profitable as it only seems
to produce headaches and confusing doctrinal problems such as:
– praying for wisdom instead of studying
– the role of the law in this dispensation
– the role of works in salvation
– asking and receiving in prayer
– elder anointing, healings, and confessing sins
Knowing how to rightly divide allows us to spend time studying
books that are not for our participation in this dispensation and
yet still learn about God’s character and his purposes in the
context to Israel.
Without the ability to rightly divide James is a messy confusion.
