Did your alarm not go off? Did the car break down? Don’t worry, God has a reason… Doesn’t he?
Isn’t that what we are supposed to say when bad things happen to make us feel better?
The popular idea is that even though life falls apart, we mess up, forget, fail, or sin it is all part of God working everything together for our good. God has a reason; people just don’t know what it is, especially during bad times. They think the reason must be a good one, else we are of all men most miserable.
Of course, God does operate with reason and purpose, but it is not true that the reason is unknown. God has revealed his will and reason to us.
Knowing his will means we can be sure in Christ in both good and bad times. Having a crisis of faith when bad things happen may be a sign you don’t know the will of God or the reason for it.
There is no good reason for Christian ignorance about it.
If you don’t know the reason, then it’s a good thing you read this email. You still have time to come out Sunday morning for our session on knowing God’s reason.
For truth,
Justin “reasonable” Johnson
