The good thing about fasting is that you don’t have to wash the dishes.
The bad thing about fasting is that some people are deceived that it will gain for them greater blessing from God.
Paul warns against this error multiple times in his grace epistles:
“But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.” – 1 Corinthians 8:8
“in the latter times some shall depart from the faith…commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth” – 1 Tim 4:1-3
“Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,(Touch not; taste not; handle not;…” – Col 2:20-21
The riches of God’s grace delivers us from the necessity of religious practices to earn favor with God.
You have not earned anything with God by fasting, but you may lose a bit of weight, and without the distraction of dishwashing you may have time to teach this lesson to your friends and family and thank God for the opportunity.
For God’s glory and grace,
