A local preacher on the radio started laughing at his own botched joke. Preacher jokes are bad enough without the teller laughing half way through.
Apparently, his audience was not getting it either as he next declared that the holy Spirit made him laugh.
At that point my wife and I looked at each other with dropped jaws. The holy Spirit made him laugh? This fellow was not even Pentecostal!
Laughter, rolling on the floor, acting drunk, getting drunk, acting childish, and screaming like a banchee have all been blamed on the holy Spirit.
I’ve heard of people opening their Bibles, staring at the sky, and praying, “Spirit teach me”, without even reading a word. This type of mysticism comes from pagan religions and Catholicism (or am I being redundant?) not the Bible.
The Spirit is not controlling your emotions, dreams, or guffaws. Nor does he teach you through the Bible like a divine Ouija board. He communicates to you clearly through the words printed in your Bible, not through your funny bone.
For His glory,
