GRACE AMBASSADORS

The Most Important Thing You Can Do This Year

Justin Johnson

You are one year older. The days are passing by. You may not have ever stopped to consider the brevity of your life. Now is a good time. The shortness of life undermines our plans and our pride:

“LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.” – Psalm 39:4

You don’t have time to lose. Your life is but a whisper, and the things that you have accomplished have not exceeded your expectations.

Worse yet, your life is not exactly the model of integrity. The law of God shining in your life shows sins of thought and deed. You have resolved to “be a better person”, but your resolutions continue to fall short.

Twisting the truth (lying) was justified when it made life comfortable for you. Your heart was busy desiring the better things of rich men (covetousness), and it consumed your time as you worked only to serve yourself (idolatry).

When your life is over you will stand before God to give an account of your life.

“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” – Romans 14:12

Your attempts to make yourself “good enough” to pass God’s judgment are not good enough. You don’t have time to put your trust in self-improvement plans when your sins are staining your resume faster than achievements. The judgment upon just one sin will be “death”.

Make your first resolution this year to stop what has never worked and believe what will save your life from sins. You do not have time to waste. Here is the better way.

The one mediator between God and man secured payment for your sins 2000 years ago. Jesus Christ offered his sinless blood to satisfy God’s judgment upon your life.

If you put your trust in his blood as payment for your sins then you will be forgiven.

He resurrected from the dead and is alive today in heavenly places. If you trust his resurrection then you can partake in his life and live eternally without sin.

“Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” – 2 Corinthians 6:2

Put your trust in Christ and stop trusting yourself to pay for your sins against God. Life is too short to wait for you to turn things around. Reckon yourself dead with Christ today and live your life this year in hope of eternity and not in dread of it.

Do it now! Be reconciled to God before another day passes. The most important thing you can do this year will only take a moment once you trust Christ to pay for your sins.

Then read Titus 3:3-8.
