Through the summer we studied Hosea in preparation for our return to the book of Romans.
Like all the prophets, Hosea speaks of Israel’s failure and then their glorious return.
Hosea does so by contrasting the most extreme judgment with the most endearing love. Israel would be called “not my people” and would have “no more mercy” from God.
Israel’s judgment by the Assyrians is now ancient history, and though we are done studying the fourteen chapters of Hosea, God is not done with what he promised in that place.
Hosea prophesies that Israel will one day return to the LORD, plead for His grace, and He will heal and love them freely (Hos 14:1-4). They will be “my people” and have God’s mercy once again (Hos 1:10-11).
What’s more, this amazing prophecy about Israel’s return was given to the apostate northern tribes of Israel, including wicked Ephraim.
This means all twelve tribes of Israel will return. All of Israel will be saved. This prophecy is repeated by our apostle Paul in Romans 9:26 and 11:26 when speaking about Israel’s fall and return by God’s grace.
“And so all Israel shall be saved” – Romans 11:26
Understanding prophecy will help you understand the apostles and the teachings of Jesus.
