There is nothing new about atheism. Neither is it a new thing for fundamentalist preachers to quote Psalm 14:1 while sticking out their tongue and thumbing their noses:
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” – Psalm 14:1
Despite the way some use this verse God is not name-calling. In the modern dilapidation of our language the meaning of many words is lost. Here is the Biblical definition of a fool:
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” – Proverbs 1:7
You may have heard it said that an ignorant man is someone who knows he lacks understanding, but a foolish man is someone who knows it all and still lacks understanding.
Atheists Know It All
Atheists will always try to deny their own foolishness and lift themselves up as those who “know”. The Bible teaches that God existed before the world was and that He is invisible (John 1:1). The only way someone can claim to know that God does not exist is if they claim to know it all. This is very unreasonable.
The belief system of an atheist requires that they be smarter than those “ignorant Christians”. Ironically, few know the Bible rightly divided.
We should really take these all-knowing ones and put them in charge of our countries, charities, and school systems. Wait, we already have.
If every person ever observed gave birth to other people, why would someone think, contrary to wisdom, that people originally came from a rock?
What about value? How do we know what is important, or right, or true? Is it by majority vote?
An atheist has an answer to all of these questions and none of them make sense. That is foolishness.
The Bigger Fools
But not all the worlds’ fools are atheists. There are many Christians who behave and believe very foolishly. Paul even rebukes the Galatians:
“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth,…” – Gal 3:1
To the Ephesians:
“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise” – Ephesians 5:15
Many times Christian fools reject doctrinal Bible study to follow what “God” has put in their heart. They claim to know a better way than Bible study to learn about God.
“A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.” – Prov 18:2
Instead they have laid aside their brains in vanity to search their hearts for the God emotion.
We Need the Bible and Our Brains
Sometime before my Daddy met my Mommy atheists made the claim of “higher understanding” and Christians traded in their understanding for a Jesus cross necklace.
Both have left the Bible and their brains in the basement. Both are fools, but the gospel suffers more harm from foolish Christians than fools who say there is ‘no God’.
I say, “Let them be” (1 Cor 14:38). When Christianity offers an intelligent answer to doctrinal confusion and vain traditions then the atheist’s belief system will crumble. Mid-acts Pauline dispensationalism is a step in the right direction.
It is time to get back to intelligent Christianity. Pick up your Bible and turn on your brain. It is the only way to learn about God.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Tim 2:15
