The Bible Not the Word of God?

A common attack to believing the Bible in your hand is an appeal to Jesus as the object of our worship. As an example, read this dim-witted comment I received recently:

“The Bible isn’t the Word of God. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1). He is a person NOT a book.”

Yes, Jesus is not a book, but the Bible is also the word of God. Here are some verses from Jesus and those he sent.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God” – 2 Tim 3:16

“It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” – Luke 4:4

“For he whom God hath sent [Jesus] speaketh the words of God” – John 3:34

“when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God” – 1 Thess 2:13

“John … was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.” – Rev 1:9

The holy scriptures (what we call the Bible) are the literal words of God, which means they are perfect and pure (Prov 30:5).

Jesus is called the Word of God for the same reasons (John 1:1; Rev 19:13)

If the Bible is not the word of God, then we would not know the person named the Word of God. Honor the words as you do the person (John 12:48).

His name testifies to the holiness of the scriptures, otherwise the name is an insult.

“thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.” – Psalm 138:2

Let God’s words be true,
