Email Tips: Correct by Showing a Better Way

This "tip" was originally delivered on Saturday, September 20th, 2014 .

No one believes they are wrong. To teach someone that is you must show them what right looks like.

Start the conversation with common ground, something you both can agree on.

An example might be: “We should do what Jesus instructs us to do.” Every Christian would affirm this statement.

Then go to verses showing impossible instructions. There is no one who would do Matt 8:4 today, but they are the Lord’s instructions.

Then repeat the agreement. There is a problem with the original statement as it stands.

The original common ground needs to be adjusted, and now they may be ready to come with you.

When you see the question mark above their heads present the solution.

We should do what the Lord Jesus Christ instructs us to do, but only when he is speaking to the church, the Body of Christ. He speaks to the church through the apostle Paul.

People will not change their mind unless they see the problem in their thinking and are aware of a better perspective.

We should do what Jesus instructs us to do when he is talking to the church, not Israel.

Be gentle. You are not trying to shut them down, but to make them see.

For His glory,

Justin Curtis Johnson
