Email Tips: A Workout for Your Mind

This "tip" was originally delivered on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 .

I realized this week that our church is more like a
spiritual gym, than a place of spiritual entertainment
and relaxation. If your someone who is physically lazy
and has no interest in building your body then the
gym will be more like torture than a help.

However, if you are sincere about putting off some
denominational baggage and growing stronger in
your knowledge of the truth then our weekly regimen
of intense Bible studies may be exactly what you need.

Spiritual growth does not result from sitting and
watching someone else entertain you. It takes real
effort and work applied to the word of God. It requires
sweat and repetition. In a gym the word “uplifting” has
a whole new meaning.

If “work” and “bible study” makes your inner man cringe
then you have let your inner man become a spiritual
couch potato. If you can see the benefit of a gym to the
body you can see the benefit of Bible study to the body
of Christ.

Get up off the pew and become a workman that need
not be ashamed.

For your edification,

Justin “bodybuilding” Johnson
